John wrote Have a little LR; not sure why this never made US Top 40! Maybe not released as a single? Jim replied... It was released in the US in January 1957 - made 49 on Billboard. The flip in the USA "All Around The World" made 13 on Billboard's R&B charts, and as most of the Southern stations concentrated on the B side, chart positions were split. In the UK, this got to Number 9 - and the film (I think the best 50's rock & roll film of all) - was a huge UK hit. He never did all the great in the USA - he had about six Top 20 singles - in the UK, he had 10. Somebody once said that if you wanted to explain to a Martian what rock and roll/pop music was about, all you had to do is play one song by Little Richard, followed by one song by the 4 Seasons - and they would get it. (Frankly, I thought you might try the "Martian Hop" on them - but then again, perhaps not) |
