So what happened to the 700 kHz spot in Dothan itself--did it change format? Go dark? In limbo waiting for the next change, whatever that might be? I'll have to tune in to the Web station now, and although I know I can do that from anywhere, not just in south Alabama/NW Florida, it makes me sad that AM radio is going down the tubes. I am a little older than you, Bob, so my roots in/feelings about it perhaps go deeper. AM radio was fun in the '60s, even the '70s, in spite of the low fidelity and summer storm static. In my mind that's what made it exciting--along with the DXing aspect of it--and because of my early extensive exposure to AM I initially had a hard time accepting FM when it finally came of age. In fact, I never embraced FM like I did AM radio. I hate IBOC on both bands and instead would welcome bringing back the high quality vintage AM transmitters, like for instance CKLW once had, to make music sound better on AM. Dream on, Jeff you sentimental fool; it'll never happen. But I know you're glad to be back where the bluest skies you'll ever see and the hills the greenest green are. Regards, J |
