Subject: Thanks For Great 1959 NS Savannah Recreation

Message Detail:

We'd like to thank Bob Mathers for the sterling performance he put in during the Nuclear Ship Savannah's 50th anniversary celebrations at Baltimore Harbor earlier this month. The Summer of '59 top ten countdown, the announcing of the pass-in-review tugboat parade and the MC'g at the Saturday night Gala with George Carroll's 18 piece 40's-50's band was superb.

The only thing missing, sadly enough, was the legendary Bobby Rydell, who, incidentally, launched his own musical career that Summer in Philadelphia, across the Delaware from where N.S. Savannah, the world's first nuclear-powered cargo/passenger merchant ship was launched out of Camden, New Jersey (July 21 1959).

It certainly was a weekend to remember. One woman was overheard to have said with the great horns and whistles from the ships and tugboats, plus the firing of the cannons and deck guns of participating vessels, she found herself caught up and crying - it being so overwhelming.

Fair Winds and Following Seas to You Bob, and BZ for a job well done.
