Thanks Bob. Actually, the archives were great up to last weekend. Now, they are not just great, they are fantastic! Also, this week's Kennedy/Dallas show is much appreciated. They say here in Ireland that everybody of a certain age, knows where they were when they heard the news about the assassination - I am sure that phrase is common in the US too. In my case, I was away at college in Cork, and walking down Patrick Street about 8.30pm in the evening time, with a copy of Robin Ward's "Wonderful Summer" which my US penpal had just sent me, when I noticed something unusual. Normally the local Cork newspaper came out in early afternoon, and was sold out by 6pm, but now there were a lot of newspaper sellers around. I noticed a large picture of President Kennedy on the front page, and simply thought that he was going to make a return visit to Ireland (he had been here earlier that year). It was only when I got closer, I realised what had happened. I have always loved Robin Ward's record, and of course it is a happy song which has nothing to do with President Kennedy, but oddly, since then, it always reminds me - not so much of the wonderful summer - but of those dark days in Dallas. Thanks for the memories - even the sad ones. |
