I totally agree with the policy adopted by Jim at CBS. Call it a "tax" rather than a "fee" and you can get people riled up. Back in the 1980's, when it came in here, we called it a "tax" too - but it came in anyway! Incidentally, the idea that radio sells music is fine - except that it has been shown that radio does little or nothing to sell "new" music - because radio naturally wants to play mainly the music that automatically sells anyway and needs no airplay to sell it. They do not want to be lumbered playing new music by new acts - too much of a tuneout factor. Anyway, time to get off the soap box! |
