Linda,

It may be that 50s-80s is rather a broad spectrum. I have found that mixed age crowds may not work well. Narrow it to 60s-70s I think. Other than that. I still think its worth a try. Be sure to advertise several weeks in advance and all to the up to the day. Get someone in local radio interested, they may be able to get the event on the air a few times, maybe even free.

You may start receiving feedback from your advertising and that would be a good indicator of interest.

I love the fifties music, since that is when I began in music, but then, although I can still dance, I do have some mileage on me now and I hate the late 70s and 80s music. But there is still a venue for that great 50s and 60s music as evidenced by the number of entertainers from that era who are still booked regularly. Why Paul Revere and The Raiders are still booked 10 days out of every month and they go back to 1963 and they earn more money now than they did in the 60s.

I played a gig just this past weekend and the promoters paid me double the fee. Said they had one of the best nights ever and plan to have be back soon. I think people want the older, more meaningful music. Songs with lyrics and music by musicians that can actually play their instruments... not the rhythmic noise and pitiful vocals we have so much of now.

You have a good idea and it can work. Circle the calendar and go for it. Be BOLD and give it a GO. Surely, you can expect to break even on costs. IF you feel that isn't possible then it is your decision, but I wish you the best either way.
