Subject: Lloyd Price - Stagger Lee - 1959

Originally recorded September 11, 1958. However, this second version (below) was recorded on December 4, 1958, specifically for use on Dick Clark's TV show, with Lloyd performing it. Dick felt the initial, explicit and graphic lyrics, were a bit too much for TV. Don't think the song had charted then. This "toned down" version did later appear on Lloyd's Greatest Hits LP(s), possibly by mistake. Rather than any gun shooting, it now has a happy ending...

Believe Lloyd owns his recordings, but not positively sure.
