According to Buddy, he never had Ricky on the show, but he did stage a rather unique contest one day. Nelson came to nearby Washington D.C. for a concert at the old armory. The deal involved choosing a winner from all entries received to join Buddy and selected regulars on his show to take a train from Baltimore and see the concert with hopes of meeting Nelson in person. In fact, I think that was a part of the deal. Ironically, I was working at a Top 40 station in Seattle in February, 1984 when we got a call from Rick Nelson's agent asking if we would like to interview him on the air IMMEDIATELY. He just arrived into town from Idaho in the midst of a Northwest concert tour. I was working middays and was on the air at the time, and with literally no prep notes or time to get anything together, I put him on and winged it. I recorded the piece and still have it. It was a thrill to have him on for about 20 minutes. Very nice man. Humble. Courteous. Seemed like he stepped right out of a black and white TV set. Thanks for the comments, Bill Kline. Bob |
