The fine DJ, Bob wrote: .. this Purple People Meter is just a bunch of 'Oogum Boogum' to me. If the station just plays what the people want to hear, that'll work just fine. That is true!!!! I switched to WMGK "Magic", Philly, (from WOGL), Philly, who plays "Classic Rock", but is relaxed with it, and I even heard "Ride Captain Ride", by The Blues Image on their station! The "neat" thing about them is, they allow independent DJs to do shows, too. Sad thing is, they included the Mono version of 'Oogum Boogum' on his recent Anthology CD set. But, Johnny me boy, reunited the countdown with the stereo version! :-) Used to like this "Bowie" song as heard on radio, back around '74-'75, only to find the (non US Top 40) US 45 single version should have been recycled into Barbie Dolls! Bowie plays most instruments here and most all singing. Felt David overworked the single version. Allan Rich should remember this, since it did better (Top 10) in the UK, but only after the initial version was pulled! p.s. My (other) friend, Bob, just finished an interview with Jerry Ross (and others). Take care, Bob!! Best, |
