Bob, you know during the late '70s there was a rival to Bill Drake's THORNR--a Canadian rockumentary with the above title. The Drake doc concentrated on different years and various legendary groups/singers (not to mention the famous Rock and Roll Time Sweep at the very end) in a stately but low-key way. "Evolution" focused solely on one year at a time from 1955 on--each year taking 2-3 hours to cover. But it was the latter show's presentation style that grabbed me; it was edgier, more intense, and dramatic in a way that felt almost like real-time. Remember when WFBR carried "Evolution" in weekend segments during the spring and summer of 1977? Believe me, for 3-4 months I was GLUED to that show every Saturday afternoon. One Saturday my family and I drove out to Shady Side to see my cousin Dale, and I took my portable radio with me so I wouldn't miss a minute of it. Even so, I had to set the darn thing in the grass when Dale's kids wanted me to play catch with them, and thus couldn't hear it anyway. Bummer. And as a result of my infatuation with that classic show, this commercial which I otherwise would've blissfully never heard of got burned into my brain (excuse the inexact lyrics caused by straining my ears to listen to a semi-local AMer toward the right end of the dial): "You can take it from me Hope that brought back a memory or two, Bob.
