You mention "Abraham Martin & John" which sort of reminds me - were there many (any) songs about JFK when he died? I cannot remember any - perhaps there were but they just didn't chart? I do recall a few songs about Martin Luther King alright, but not President Kennedy. Strangely enough, and there is mo obvious connection, I always associate one song with Kennedy - namely Robin Ward's "Wonderful Summer". No connection really, but I feel I was playing it around 7pm here in Ireland, when the news came on TV about Dallas. That is the only logical link I can work out. I know that I always associate Perry Como's "Magic Moments" with the air crash that killed many of the Manchester United soccer team back in 1958, because a DJ interrupted the show to give the news, and then (without thinking), announced "And now for some more Magic Moments". Reminds me that when I was a PD in a station that used to broadcast the local obituaries, I insisted that all DJs still rigidly to the playlist. And they did, resulting in the obituaries being followed one morning by Eddie Cochran's "Three Steps To Heaven", being followed by about a hundred furious phone-calls from irate listeners. I never demanded rigid adherence to the playlist again. Re the Kinks track, I like it - it sounds great. Is that on your site right now? Didn't notice it when I last looked. |
