Yes indeedy, Joe Dowell's 'Wooden Heart' IS the answer. Nice job as usual, Jim.
Jersey John... missed the '60's only' qualifier on the question. Guess all that Alabama sweet tea and barbeque addled my brain.
One song that can squeak in as a foreign language #1 is the Royal Guardsmen's 'Snoopy Vs. The Red Baron' which made the top in late '67...because of the German dialogue briefly spoken at the beginning.
Which is somewhat of a stretch.
Couldn't blame you if you 'shot that one down'.
