Well it could be (or not).

Remember they licence songs, not recordings, so if your label has a re-make of a hit, you still have to licence the song, and MCPS licences a huge amount of stuff, being as it is a virtual monopoly.

Naturally, you will get remakes in amongst the genuine stuff - but MCPS does not mean it is a guarantee that the recordings are original (or not) - simply that the songwriter's royalties have been accounted for.
