Thanks, but to be honest John, it was pure guesswork. In fact, I was tossing up between Mary Wells and Diana Ross, and for no particular reason - apart from the vocal range - I chose Diana. 1961? What was the title of the song? Was it a single, or an album track? Sounds like a Smokey Robinson song, but possibly not. The first record I bought by the Supremes would have been sometime in 1962 - I think it was the first one released over here called "When The Lovelight Starts Shining" but I know they had a load of singles out before that. About the Supremes being in a beach movie - I wonder if that is the same film I remember? I do recall seeing a black act right in the middle of a beach movie and thinking "How odd". May have been the same one. Remember seeing "Rock Around The Clock" in 1956, and right in the middle - there was this lengthy appearance by Tony Martinez & His Mambo Orchestra! Couldn't wait for them to finish and for Bill Haley to come back! |
