That's great Jim! I'm fascinated by what is called a "Demo". It could just be one or more members strumming guitars and singing, or it could be a much more elaborate production, and sounds near the published version.

Allow me to ramble:
Some bootlegs sound fantastic, better than the record company's, such as a couple of Beatles CDs, early on. How did they find this great sounding out-takes? From what I read, Capitol stored their tapes ALL over the place, even in abandon theaters (I'm sure the other Big Boy record companies did, too). If you knew where to look, and had access, you could have a blast and make decent money! Always felt you got nice, but never the ultimate sound from record companies. Why would they give away their "best" sound, knowing you wouldn't buy any further improved sound material? Those two (late '80's?) Beatles CDs were ahead of their time, because you got direct from studio tape transfers, not spent mixed down master tapes.

Jim, I'm always on the lookout for Demos!!! I'll even pay a decent dollar, if it's one from a Pop US hit. Maybe we should talk in private. I'll look-up this JoAnne Smith singer!

With what I read about Jackie Wilson, the (Brunswick) tapes he recorded were sent to have the Big Band or Orchestra later added! This is probably why I found him singing w/o the dynamic music backing, nor will I find alternate takes of the final songs! They just don't exist!

Thanks, Jim!!

Best,
John
