Bob, no sooner did you mention "Mr. Kasem"'s name, but then I hear him doing one of his Countdown shows, early morning, on WOGL (Philly)! Strange! I felt it was a pre-recorded, early show, Casey did, judging the sound (quality) of what was played, as far as '70's tunes. My guess was right, when Casey announced the WOGL call letters. You could tell he was many years older. I gather WOGL had to fill a void since one of their DJ's, Ron O'Brien, passed away recently. No real knowledge of Ron, and a Jim O'Brien (WFIL) is a more common DJ name to me. Ron would play some decent '70's songs, but only as "Forgotten 45s". I figured CBS guided him to minimize their airplay. From some recent e-mail exchange with one of their better known DJs, at WOGL, as I thought, he considers it a job and not a joy. But he did tell me to keep the oldies going, after I showed him my web site. I don't mean to criticize WOGL, but it seems every time I tune in, it's the same Donna Summer or Barry White song! No need to reply. Best, |
