Subject: RE: Satellite vs High Definition Radio

Message Detail:
Fellas, I'm really enjoying the give and take on the issue of SATRAD and HD.

Satellite radio as Norm as says...certainly offers a variety that local radio refuses to provide.

My point is...if local radio put full-service formats back in play...offering variety PLUS news and community service that's RELEVANT to local listeners...they'd have audience return.

Is there ever an instance of this happening?

Yes.

In the early 50's when TV came in...radio stations had on average more national programming than local. When TV came in...radio had to do something to stem the loss of listeners.

They did.

Local news, info, and a format called rock and roll did the trick.

Good thread guys, keep it going!

Bob
