With all the posts I've made here about Top 40 music and its golden era, I don't think I've ever mentioned that during those years I was also a pretty avid AM DXer. When AM radio switched to mostly talk during the '80s I was already getting most of my music from FM but still loved to DX on AM when I was out of town. But it's gotten a lot harder to do that now with IBOC hash breathing down semi-local stations' backs. I hate IBOC with a passion; it makes a complete mockery of FCC rules restricting undue interference to adjacent stations--and that covers both AM and FM. IBOC has practically killed FM DXing altogether. And I hear HD reception is a lot spottier and doesn't cover anywhere near as far as analog. To me the whole concept is like trying to fit a square peg into...well, you get the idea. Whaddaya gonna do? Jeff |
