You can find a snippet of my idol below. Collected many of his LPs - Verve, Pacific Jazz, RCA, MCA, etc. Even tracked down a 45 single his daughter, Kathy, cut. Made sure to buy Slingerlands because of him. Thought rock drummers were amateurs, because they held their sticks differently, just to make more noise. Went to see Buddy at Brandy's Wharf, in Philadelphia, in the early '70's. Having listened to most, if not all, of his drum battles, Max Roach gave Buddy a run for his money. Buddy, the same year or a year after, released an instrumental of The Buckinghams "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy". Big Bands began to die as ballrooms died. Didn't need amplifiers to fill a ballroom, with sound, with a Big Band. The song below, I feel, contains Buddy Rich's greatest drum solo, like a song within a song. Have a great week! Best, |
