Subject: RE: Del Shannon - Mills Brothers - Get A Job

Johnny, my man, I don't have a clue where Peter and Gordon heard him. Have you seen those guys lately? They still sound good but age has caught up to them otherwise.

Del toured the U.K. in 1966. Perhaps that is where they heard him!

I was last in the studio with Del in the Fall of 1965
at Bell Sound Labs in New York. They had the most advanced sound recording equipment in the World at that time. I missed the U.K. tour because of other obligations and never worked with Del again. I had been his drummer on several concert engagements and in the studio that Fall. He helped me get yet another recording contract.

The album from that Fall was 1661 Seconds with Del Shannon
released, I believe, by Big Top also of New York. That album has a lot of good songs on it. Del covered many of the popular tunes of the day. I think it was released in 1966.

Del was prone to bouts of deep depression, and his sudden and untimely death, both shocked and saddened me. I will always think that it was the medication he had begun to take that took him over the edge.

You know, Del loved Country music. Even recorded some of it. He was a decent man and a unique artist.
