'Dona Dona' was released by Patty Duke in 1968 but the song never made the hot 100, let alone the 40. The last chart entry she had was a response to the Bobby Goldsboro song 'Whenever He Holds You', which she genderized to 'She Holds You'.

'68 was a sort of a dry period for her regarding TV and music, but she caught a break in '70 in the Shirley McLaine movie 'Sweet Charity' and as they say John, my boy...

'the rest is history'.
