I forgot Rupert Holmes! Great song. Now was there ever a song simply called "I"? "I" would beat "If". I know Ben E King had a hit titled "I (Who Had Nothing)", but unless we ignore the brackets, that does not count I suppose. I know that the Velvets follow-up to "Tonight" was called "I", and I was sure that had to be the winner (and it was looking at the CD cover today that put this whole daft question into my mind, but according to the liner notes, it did not chart in the USA). I've remembered another one - "One" by 3 Dog Night (1969). This could go on forever.
