John. The show WAS serious...if not Shakespearean at times. The writing was excellent and the episodes were filmed 'on location' in small towns and major cities across America. In my story of a few years back. Executive Producer Herbert Leonard told me 'As we were filming in one city, we had set designers and other production people visiting at the same time in another city or town...and with the approval of city officials in that locale we would 'frame' or choose location settings for future episodes in that area. We normally did this about 30 days out, and then we'd show up there and film one or two episodes'. The program's theme song was very attractive and of course....the Corvette was as much of a star as the lead actors...Martin Milner and George Maharis. I suggest you watch the show if it comes on, or look for a DVD set to buy. More than anything, 'Route 66' truly captures the way it was in early 60's America. Best, Bob |
