Oh, I remember that. "Love Me, Love Me Love" by Frank Mills. It peaked around #40-something in early 1972. Think it's about an old-fashioned organ grinder who can't forget the lost love of his youth, and the lyrics you quoted is what he keeps sadly saying to himself, like a mournful mantra.

Seems very appropriate, because seven years later Frank came out with "Music Box Dancer" which we all know.
