Subject: RE: Ultimate Oldies Countdown Update

Message Detail:
Well, if I were the one doing it...and I emphasize **I**...Instead of matter-of-factly putting it together like a typical lackluster oldies format of the present, the whole show would be done to replicate a mint aircheck from the golden age of Top 40, with as few disclaimers as reasonably possible. Think CKLW in its clear, booming prime. All the records featured would be the original 45 hit versions (as long as needle wear on them is minimal), CDs used as a last resort and when they are recorded directly from the original 45s. The DJ patter would be faster paced, more like the '60s and would feature authentic-sounding IDs, jingles, news flashes and other sound bites of the era. Imagine something like "The Swingin' Sound of St. Louis" / or / "The Happening Sound of the Gateway Giant, WXOZ, the Big One-Five-One-Oh on YOUR radio dial!" in typical dramatic, stentorian fashion.

I'm a Top 40 purist and would want to create as close as possible the feel and smell of classic Top 40 radio from the countdown year featured, and do as little as possible to remind listeners it's only 2007 and they're merely tuned to an "oldies station." Featuring digitally-enhanced music, yet.

But that's how **I** would do it, Bob. Not a sermon--or maybe it is!

Where there is no vision, the people perish.

Jeff
