Hi John, I appreciate the question. That particular song entered the charts a full 5 years before I began working on the air. The version by Giorgio is the one I'm familiar with and it would be fun to hear the one you refer to. The jocks I've worked with who love oldies in just about every case also KNOW oldies. Sadly, only the jocks who host specialty (read: Sunday night) oldies shows have the freedom to play as your friend Mr. Blavat often says, 'from the heart and not the chart'. One former colleague at a CBS oldies station where I once worked told me that every hit in the Top 40 was actually IN the computer playlist but if it wasn't CLEARED for airplay, it was not accessible to the jocks unless management approved it in a special circumstance (i.e, weekend theme, death of a superstar, etc.). One very enjoyable aspect about providing the shows on Ultimate Oldies Radio is having the freedom and desire to play those songs you refer to. John...it's about time you sent another list of rarities in to us so we can put 'em out there for folks to enjoy. Just be cool if we play a remake:) Best, BVob |
