No, I never heard Melanie's version. I found that the other version of that song that hit Billboard's top 40 was by Kenny O'Dell, which was his only chart maker as a singer.
Kenny was better known in Nashville for writing songs for country singers such as Charlie Rich (Behind Closed Doors), The Judds (Mama He's Crazy), and working with the great rocker Duane Eddy.
