Uncommon Recordings! Brilliant site - have just bookmarked it!

Now, since you mentioned Bobby Vee, if you have the "Nothing Like A Rainy Day" album, you will come across a "singer-songwriter version" (slow and moody - plenty of piano!), of "Take Good Care Of My Baby", which sounds like a mixture of James Taylor meets Carole King, if you can imagine such an animal!

Incidentally, as you are obviously into quirks and oddities, how about this.

As you know, copyright on sound recordings in Europe has always been only 50 years, (it is far longer in the USA).

That meant little to anybody until last year, when of course, we hit 2006 (1956), and this year, when all recordings issued in 1957 likewise went out of copyright. (The recordings only mind you - not the songs!).

Well in our local supermarket yesterday, I bought a new double CD for five euro (about $ 6.00)

It contains 50 tracks (all US or UK Top 40 hits), by everybody from Elvis, to Bill Haley, to Fats Domino, to Little Richard to Carl Perkins to Gene Vincent, the Platters, Chuck Berry, Pat Boone etc etc.

I bought the CD thinking they would be remakes or "live" versoons, but these are the original versions - not remakes - and the sound quality is excellent.

The packaging is also adequate - two pages of liner notes - plus a few photos (Elvis, Bill Haley, Little Richard, Bo Diddley and Fats Domino).

The album was released in July, and is advertised on Amazon.co.uk (the UK version of Amazon), but not as far as I could see on Amazon.com so it is probably not for sale outside of Europe.

I noticed noticed a fifty track double CD of Elvis from the same era, plus others which I did not really look at, but will later today!

The Elvis one seems to contain tracks from the very early RCA albums, including "Heartbreak Hotel" -"Old Shep" etc., plus the tracks he did for Sun.
