Hi John, I'd say its 40/60 that the 'new' CBS 101.1 FM will return to its format prior to May, 2005. The 40% is only there because of the return to CBS of Dan Mason. He replaced Joel Hollander a few weeks ago as the Corporate PD. Mason knows and understands the 'oldies' mentality, but even old warhorses like Dan have a tendency to be swept up in the prevailing trends of the day. Which is to skew no higher than the 54 year old listener, which alas, rules out the 'real' old gold! My guess is that starting Thursday at 1:01 PM EDT, WCBS will return personalities to the airwaves and the old jingles will be there too but the music will skew a bit newer. Certainly don't think you'll be hearing many pre-Beatle cuts, although with Mason at the helm...I'm not entirely ready to rule that out. Methinks you'll hear more of the Elton, Billy Joel, Chicago, Doobies, and CCR stuff along with the standard Beatles/Beach Boys/Motown triumvirate from '65-'70. 400-600 titles rotated in and out depending on daypart and weekend. Perhaps Mr. Mason will allow some Sunday Night Doo Wops a la Harvey Holiday on WOGL from a few years back. That's my thought. In any event, we'll certainly see come Thursday. Bob |
