Hey Will,

I'm glad you brought up the subject. I've had conversations on this very same topic with people in and out of the radio business.

Take Hip Hop for example. Maybe 10 songs from 5 years ago still resonate and remain popular with today's kids. One problem with the genre is that it is more a negative expression of one lifestyle as opposed to a universal theme that the masses can relate to.

As far as Latin music, that genre in most cases is dance oriented more so than lyrically dominant.

In both cases, you're looking to various degrees...not much in the way of fond memories 30-40 years later with songs that bring back the 'good times'.

Can you imagine 50 Cent, Ludacris, Snoop Dogg and the like being played and danced to by people in their 50's who grew up in the culture when those artists were 'it'?

Maybe another question to ask (sad though it is) is how many of those who embrace the Hip Hop culture will even be alive in their 50's?

Good question, Will.

Anyone else care to opine?

Thanks,

Bob
