First, I'd find a current book of Joel Whitburn's. Maybe a listing of Top 40 or even Top 10 hits, from the '50's forward. If the song titles don't ring a bell, I'd listen to song snippets carried by most CD vendors, such as Amazon and CDconnection. You certainly don't want to purchase CDs just for one or two particular songs. So, I'd subscribe to a song download site, where you can obtain probably most of what you're looking for, for less than $1.00 per song. If you keep the songs in binary form (rather than create an Audio CD), you can put the entire "gift" on (1) one CD.
