Message Detail:
"The Glories consisted of Francis Gearing, Betty Stokes and Mildred Vaney".

That may very well be correct, although on the session which recorded "I Stand Accused". the Glories were listed as Frances Gearing, Dolores Brown and Mildred Vaney, unless of course Betty Stokes was a name also used by Delores Brown?

Frances Yvonne Gearing, also known as Frankie Gearing, came from Daytona Beach, Florida, and down there, she sang with a lot of local acts including The Steinways, who had a couple of releases in Miami on Oliver Records, including "Call Me" (produced by Bob Yorey).

Bob decided to move to New York in 1966, but only Yvonne went with him, and here she teamed up with Mildred Vaney and (I thought) Dolores Brown, to form the Glories.

Their only hit was in 1967 with "I Stand Accused" on Date, but they kept issuing records, at least six more on Date, and did a lot of touring, mainly with Motown acts. In 1969, they almost made it again with a version of James Carr's "Dark End Of The Street".

All they A sides and a few of the B sides they cut for Date are on a CD called "The Poppies/The Glories" on Pavillion 71239.

In 1972, they were seen on a Temptations tour by Willie Mitchell who owned Hi Records, and he signed them to a contract, but for some reason or other, decided to change their name to Quiet Elegance.

Soon after, Dolores Brown left, and in January 1973, Willie Mitchel replaced her with Sandra Reeves who also used the name Lois Reeves, and was, as John pointed out, a former member of her sister's group, The Vandellas, who had decided to call it a day.

A year later, Quiet Elegance broke up and Yvonne Gearing moved to Japan, and released a few singles there.

Then she turned up back in the US with a number of solo releases, this time under the name Frankie Gearing, on Beale Street, Bound South and TRI6 labels (nad perhaps more than I do not know of).

All of the Glories are very much with us.

Anyway, Yvonne is 63 this year - has appeared as backup singer on a number of albums, and some of her Japanese stuff is due for release in the US shortly.

Lois Reeves nowadays is back on the road with her sisters Martha and Delphine as "Martha & The Vandellas", and of course, Martha is now a member of Detroit's City Council, having been elected in 2005.

Mildred Vaney went on to form Cut Glass and later Hott City on Butterfly Records with Ortheia Barnes, sister of J J Barnes, and she is now living in Chicago.
