Hi Bob, I stayed up late to watch "The Buddy Deane Scrapbook," and I just want to thank you for making a copy of it for me; it was wonderful! I'm not just talking about the narrator, you were great, of course; but it was neat to see clips from the show, and the people who danced on it. Isn't it interesting, we were just babies when all of this was going on, and now we have a love of this music! I never gave it much thought before, but you know, there was a sense of "perfection" on these shows; and one of the ladies who danced on the Buddy Deane Show even spoke about it on the DVD. You had to meet a certain criteria, or you could forget it. It was the same with American Bandstand, the Discophonic Scene, and Jerry's Place; everyone had the "perfect" hairstyle, the "perfect" clothes, and the "perfect" figure. Even when Jerry Blavat had his On The Air With The Geator, a short-run TV show in the early 90s, it was always the same certain people who were there for the taping. I'm glad "Hairspray" was made. Even though it was just a movie, and later a stageplay, it had a lot of "reality" to it, maybe a little more than the actual show the movie was made to depict. It showed that an overweight, plain Jane could make it in a world of thin, "perfect" people, that "imperfection" can triumph ov er "perfection" sometimes. I wish I could get my hands on that instructional video of the Madison; I could have it down pat by the Oldies Dance in Baltimore on June 2. I even know where I can get a poodle skirt and saddle shoes. Hey, I could be the Tracey Turnblatt of the 21st Century, LOL! Thanks again, Bob, and I'll talk to you later. Nanci |
