Message Detail:
The song has survived the test of time as a dance record and as a staple of local and syndicated 'Saturday Night Fever' radio shows. When I think of the song, I remember in Baltimore back in the spring and summer of 1980 that 'Funkytown' was heavily played on jukeboxes around town.

That was a rather wild time in my life. I went into a joint called 'The Sandpiper' down in eastern Baltimore County. Calling it a 'joint' was an understatement. The place was little more than a shack situated right on the water and had a reputation for spilling more blood than beer on an average Saturday night.

Probably because half the clientele liked country, and the other half disco/dance.

I remember walking in, hearing the song, seeing the crowd, sensing the mood, and after a short stay...getting out of there.

Oh yes, memories....precious and otherwise!
