"Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver is the only one I can think of from that era that fits your description. It was a big hit here in the summer of '71 (highest position #2 Billboard). Actually, the refrain goes "Country roads / Take me home / To the place / I belong / West Virginia / Mountain mama / Take me home / Country roads." You know, the Washington, D.C. area where I live is not far from West Virginia. I've been all over the state and parts of it are indeed, like John Denver sang, "almost heaven." Very mountainous, green, and beautiful, but also generally poor, low-income. Coal is a big industry there. My cousin Joyce lived in the eastern part of W. Va. for many years (about 200 km west of D.C.) and I used to visit her and Earl (her husband) a lot. They moved to Florida's east coast sometime in the '90s. Jeff
