John Phillips, former New Journeymen and Mamas & Papas, cut this solo recording in 1970, "Mississippi". I came across it while auditioning (that's a technical term for listening :)) a CD set. The other songs on the CD set didn't phase me much, but when this song began to play, I had to restart the intro a few times, because it sounded so familiar, and I knew I was in for a treat. Made the whole CD purchase, alone, worth its weight in gold. I can't believe I recall this 1970 Top 40 hit; I must have had it on vinyl, too. Great song, even if it didn't chart all that well!
