Don't mind me, I'm a born chatterbox....

I was watching a Doo Wop special on PBS TV. Harvey Holiday was a guest DJ. After listening to him mentioning how great Doo Wop groups were, I had to ask myself, why is he employed at a radio station that governs his Doo Wop favorites to less than 2% of their weekly broadcasts? Have to assume, where else can he go? It's a job, and that's that.

I contacted Jerry Blavat (after someone here mentioned a way to contact him via e-mail), figuring he could provide insight to a regional group, Frankie & The Classicals, but, sadly, never heard a word from him.

The entire crew (well, the ones I tried) at WOGL-FM (Philly) never replies to e-mails. I guess they just don't care to hear from listeners. Same with WVLT-FM (S. Jersey), (with one exception, Corky (Thanks, Corky!), but probably since I mentioned someone he knew), not even the President/CEO.

It was nice of Jim Nettleton (former WFIL-AM (Philly) DJ) to visit here, after contacting him. Thanks, Jim!

Kevin O'Hara, at WBZC-FM (S. Jersey), is one of the few (part-time) DJs who seems enthused with what he plays and contributes to the airwaves. His "Common Thread" quizzes are fun to play on Sundays. Thanks, Kevin!

What I'm trying to get at, is it Oldies that are dying on radio stations, because of lack of listeners, or is it because few DJs, new and old, show any enthusiasm to keep them going? Give me a microphone and a 10,000 Watt transmitter, and I'll show you enthusiasm! :-)

Royalties: While I believe everyone deserves to get paid for what work they do, entertainment or otherwise, I feel both the RIAA as well as this Copyright Control Board is is on a mission to kill music in the USA. This, as well as actual music artists, from the '60's, suing one another, decades later, does harm. Where does it all end?

A note to Bob Mathers: I found (Johnny Johnson &) The Bandwagon "Breaking Down The Walls Of Heartache", in stereo (MP3). While it sounds nice, I gather it's a very good rip from LP (from a bootleg CD), possibly from the very LP I owned, since it is RARE and was Mint. Was shocked to find this song only charted around #119, in the US, while it was a #4 hit in the UK! Sadly, every UK CD, even Sony's (owner of the Epic Records label), I find, has this song in Monophonic. Like I said before, poor promotion and distribution will kill the best of songs. Thanks, Bob!
