Lt. B.N. Miner reported the presence of a large wagon train moving from Leesburg east to the area of Edward's Ferry. Miner further reported the firing of musketry in the area and believed the Confederates were attempting to cross the Potomac into Maryland. This occurred on September 4th. Their station continued to operate for another two days. At that time, the area was to "hot" to continue signal opera- By the 9th, all indicators suggested a large Confederate force in the environs of Fredericksburg.
