On May 3, 1862, just above New Orleans, on the Mississippi River, the USS Sciota & USS Brooklyn captured a sugar schooner. Can anyone translate these Sciota & Brookly Signal Flags? May 3, 1862 transcript from the Sciota log: At 1, boarded schooner Gabriel Aime, loaded with sugar, made signals to Brooklyn 4317, 4998, 1510, 4793, 4310, 4901, 3770, 525, 2, 1, 19, 14, 13, 17, 14, 20, 7, 5, 3794, 6313, 2965, 2356, 417, 12, 5, 12, 15, 8, 9, 18. The Brooklyn answered 530, 6614, 4310, 974. Sent schooner to New Orleans. |
