Hope your anniversary of Fort Stevens goes well today. This day in history also marks the Battle of Monocacy, which occurred in and around the town of Frederick, Maryland and especially at Frederick Junction along the river and the B&ORR right-of-way. (map provided below)

If retired U.S. park ranger David Murphy is still in the DC area, we would recommend that you attempt to latch on to him and draw him into your ranks as he was quite successful in seeing to the needs of both telegraph and signal-operators when providing service for and during the 150th of St. Elizabeths Hospital observance. Info on David and the event may be found elsewhere on this forum (use the search feature below).
