Subject: Question on Destroying a Signal Tower

Message Detail:
Walt, I have been recently reading Rebel Yell: The Violence, Passion, and Redemption of Stonewall Jackson by S.C. Gwynne and one passage prompts me to ask a question. On pg. 77 of Rebel Yell, the story is told of E.P. Alexander narrowly avoiding being killed at his Signal station at the Van Pelt House during First Manassas by a 30 lb. conical, rifled shell. Further, I note several places in Brown's book stories where artillery was trained on various observation/signal towers in an effort to destroy them.

In your research over the years, is there any record of any tower on either side being successfully destroyed (e.g., toppled) by artillery fire?
