Subject: RE: On Re-creating at Historic Signal Sta Sites
184.108.40.206. The NPS keeps the Bolivar ridge facing Maryland Heights nicely manicured. Selecting a suitable site for a station on Maryland Heights might be the challenge.
There is an overlook just above the rock facing on Maryland Heights that is always clear of foliage and to-day it supports the railroad tunnel portal. This site, however, is not on top of the summit. It is, however, still clearly visible a little over two miles east of Bolivar Ridge.
The station atop Maryland Heights was located near the Six-Gun battery and overlooks the Potomac away to the east in the direction of Sugarloaf mountain, situated along a north south axis between Frederick and Poolesville.
Loudon Heights lies across the Potomac directly south of Maryland Heights.
You mission, Mr. Snawder, should you choose to accept it, is to inquire if the NPS at Harpers Ferry can confirm whether a portion of the ridge atop Bolivar would be visible from the Six-Gun battery in late Spring or early Summer. If not, the lower rock facing on Maryland Heights some distance above the tunnel portal, plus two locations within Historic Harpers Ferry below, could be good stand-ins, along with the ridge at Bolivar.
If more interest is exhibited here at this forum, additional stations may be opened during a chosen weekend.
