Dave, as always, thanks much for that detailed and very informative reply. That is exactly what I was looking for, and will follow up with the sources you listed. One other kinda related item is what is the story re whether Lee used field wire comms during the Gettysburg Campaign? Seem to recall that the ANV had captured some Union wire (perhaps at Winchester), but there was some question whether it was employed for comms purposes esp. during the fighting at Gettysburg. Have any insight on this? |
