Subject: RE: Delawarean Confederate Telg Opr of Some Note

Message Detail:
Tom, the CSA had a CS Mil Tel somewhat equivalent to the USMT, but placed under the Post Master General rather than the QMG or SecWar. (I have a "working list" of about fifty names, mostly drawn from NA pay listings for 1863-64, that does not include the name Griffith.) I would think that Griffith was a civilian (a "true 'mister', " as opposed to a junior officer or EM) but he may have been an EM "appropriated" by the General (i.e., detailed or "taken in" a la Jackson's Hotchkiss).
