Subject: RE: Making Sense of Re-created Events With Compasses

Message Detail:
I used a regular pocket rose compass at several events I attended, along with a hachure map of the general area of the event (drawn up in advance and handed out to the appropriate personnel). I never actually mentioned bearings out loud as the situation never really called for it. I merely used it to orient myslef on the map in relation to north. And since this was a pocket compass, it had no provisions for magnetic vs. geographical north, nor was such precision necessary in my situation.

I believe the compass was a repro of the one supposedly recovered from an NYC fort known to hold Rogers' Rangers. In addition it had a sundial clock, which was useful for estimating approximate time. Unfortunately I lost mine and need to pick up another.
