Mark, I see that the auction ended at a bid of $1,600 and still had not met the reserve price. If that's the range, we can always look at the color photos! Recall that this example had no evidence of wartime issue or use -- whether naval or army. Might it not have been produced for either, but failed of inspection? How long did Navy continue to use this type (even as Myer produced his "M2" version to supersede it) -- was it until the Very pistol replaced it after the war? Were non-military sales introduced into civilian market? To go into that price range, I'd want to see more research. (Maybe this is sour grapes for letting a water-recovered example, with Washington Navy Yard stamps, minus all steel parts -- hammer, trigger, etc. -- get away from me about a dozen years ago!)
