You make a good point about adding a skill that can help educate the kids (and maybe some parents).

You also remind me, for some reason, of trying to figure out the grids the other side was using, back when, and learning that it came from Germany via Soviet Russia (and maybe China) and was the Gauss-Krueger system, similar to "our" UTM. (In fact, we had a fairly decent handy-dandy for conversion. The complication lay, rather, in working with French maps, and learning that they didn't have their prime medidian going through Greenwich...but through Paris! Wouldn't you know.

My apology on Katum. Thought you were recalling Kontum province in RVN.

OK, fun's over. Back to the 19th Century.
