Chesapeake Signals (Capt. Bob Stecker's group) normally hands this in on a daily basis to their command staff.

They have taught us (Signal Corps of the James) to also perform this duty. Like you said - it puts our accuracy in the General's face every evening and lets him know how things truly went.

Since I was the "Federal Signal Officer" it was my duty to do this. I figured it was easier for me to write as soon as I got back to camp - just shortly after 'cooling off'.
