I was reading Taliaferro Preston Shaffner's 1859 Telegraph Manual and came upon the notations of which you speak. The reason that they struck me enough to post them is on account of the many spectators who have progressively asked more complex questions about the daily routine of message transmissions.

Webmaster Mark Hageman, by the way, has two important chapters of T.P. Shaffner's manual already up in our SCA telegraph section as PDF files.

I've been recently informed that Mark may soon be in the midsts of up-loading another feature telegraph article which is being presented to him by one of our fellow associates.
