Unaware of contemporary photo, but Brown has a sketch on p. 375 that shows how little was still standing. I'd use that until better one comes along. A "pair of good [modern?] binoculars" would be unfair advantage. You could use a telescope of 30x, though.
Seriously, I have tried it with 7x35 and the view is really impressive. Erected by the citizens of the vicinity, this was, I blv, first monument to commemorate or first president and predates the one in DC. Pleasant Valley is beautiful, beautiful country--hard to think of the fighting that forced the passes.
